C Major in Standard Tuning
(including Accidentals
Playing in tunings other than Standard Tuning can be hard. FretboardGPS by Musicianly makes it easy.
This Collection starts with the lowest tuning BEDGBD and ends in Standard Tuning EADGBE.
FretboardGPS displays the note locations of A Aeolian (A Natural Minor) in Academic (Left Fretboard) and Intervals (Right Fretboard) with the lowest tunings first and ending back to Standard Tuning EADGBE.
These Tunings are close to Standard Tuning because only strings 6 and 5 change (xx).
Strings 4-1 do not change from Standard Tuning (DGBE).
Let's Get Started
The Left Fretboard NUT displays the tuning (in this first example, the notes are BEDGBE).
On your guitar, change String 6 from E down to B.
Then change String 5 from A down to E.
The other four strings do not change from Standard Tuning in any of the examples on this page.
WHY BOTHER?
Try it. You might like it. You will probably come up with some interesting melodies and unique harmonic structures to that seem to flow right out of the tunings. Because they do!
You can navigate to any of the tunings provided on this page using the Tunings menu below. You can also use the paging arrows to go from one tuning to another.
Inspiration
Because strings 1-4 are the same as Standard Tuning, and only strings 5 and 6 change, this tuning should have a familiar feel to it. The goal of this example is to explore BEYOND STANDARD TUNING but close enough that it might make it easier than playing a tuning far from standard.
